Hoda Paripoush has been drinking tea for as long as she can remember. Paripoush was born in India to Persian parents and, growing up, tea was at the heart of her home life and family culture. “India and Persia are both tea-drinking nations,” she says. Paripoush’s family came to Canada as religious refugees when she was just three years old, and tea became a source of comfort during a time of constant change.
When Hoda Paripoush pours tea, she does so with reverence. When she speaks, she doesn’t waste a single word, weaving a beautiful story about her travels or her daughter with care and light.
As Hoda Paripoush inhales one of Gucci’s perfumes, her face lights up with childlike delight. “There’s almost a little bit of dampness and campfire coming through,” she says of the scent.

Until we met Hoda Paripoush, we never knew there was such a thing as a tea sommelier. Very cool indeed, but that is hardly the most impressive accomplishment on Hoda’s extraordinary resume.

Centring around fragrant pots of fine tea, fizzing glasses of bubbly and towers of sweet and savoury treats like something out of a pastel fairytale, these ceremonies often take place in hotels or equally classy environs and tend to require reservations.
